Course Description:

Choir is an excellent opportunity for lower school students to continue their love of music and singing while gaining a strong foundation for participation in the high school choral program. Through each of our songs, we will practice singing, performing, improvising, reading music notation, and analysis skills while also incorporating subject areas such as math, foreign languages, social studies, and visual arts. Singers will have the opportunity to participate in festivals and SHA Choral Program concerts. Students will also learn how to audition and will be auditioning for Honors Choir for Grades 4-6. 


 

Private Piano Lessons Grades SK-6

Course Description:
 

Fundamentals of Piano - Students who enroll in private piano lessons with teachers from the Masaki School of Music will learn the basics of correct hand position, rhythm and note reading. Those with previous piano experience will be evaluated and a program to develop continued good piano technique and musical awareness through scales, exercises, etudes and appropriate repertoire will be individually selected. Daily practice is required and students will be asked to keep a journal of their practice times.  Opportunities to perform in student recitals at the Masaki School of Music will be offered throughout the year. A recital at the end of the school year will be scheduled at Sacred Hearts.

Course Description:

Attention music lovers! This is a brand new opportunity to open your child's eyes to the amazing world of music through violin. No prior experience or instruction necessary. Classes will cover beginning violin as well as the fundamentals of music theory and ear training. Suzuki Book 1 will be used plus supplemental material.

Course Description:

Hula is one of the most important traditions of the Hawaiian culture. It combines music and dance to tell stories. Students will be immersed in the Hawaiian culture, language, and history of Hawai'i. They will learn basic Hawaiian songs and hula technique that includes proper posture, steps and hand movement. Students will learn to dance in both the kahiko (ancient) and auana (modern) styles. Hawaiian values will also be practiced in this class. 

 

Tap Dance Grades 1-6

Attire: Clothes that allow movement such as jazz pants or leggings with a leotard, camisole, tank top or t-shirt. NO loose or baggy clothing. 
Hair: braids, bun or ponytail (must be pulled back)
Shoes: Black tap shoes

Course Description:

Students will learn basic tap steps, rhythm, coordination, tap terminology, technique, and self-expression. Class will consist of warm-up, center, across the floor training, and time to learn and practice choreography. No experience necessary. Each class level meets once per week for 45 minutes.
