The Academy’s Zonta, or ‘Z’, Club was established
as a youth development group by the women of the Zonta Club of Honolulu.
Largely focused on serving the community, student members meet monthly
to discuss and organize service activities, which have included
participation in or at: the Race for the Cure, Salvation Army Christmas
bell-ringing, Easter Seal Gingerbread Fundraisers, the Ronald McDonald
House, reading and tutoring young children, women’s abuse
shelters and homes for the elderly.
In addition to their service work, Z Club members also attend the
evening meetings of the Zonta Club of Honolulu, where they enjoy
visiting with a variety of guest speakers, including Gov. Linda
Lingle; newspaper columnists, Lee Cataluna and Nora Keller; and
Lt. Annette P. Cooper, a pilot in the U.S. Navy. Another highlight
was participating in the dramatic reading of excerpts from the novel
War Torn with co-author Denby Fawcett.
