Keeping abreast of foreign affairs in the Pacific region, sharing
cultural elements and performing community service are the main
goals of the Academy’s Pacific and Asian Affairs Council (PAAC).
Members of this Council are part of a statewide program that serves
the World Affairs Council (WACA), a national network comprised of
educational organizations that promote and focus on international
events and issues. In keeping with this mission, PAAC members engage
in lively discussions of foreign affairs issues with an emphasis
on Hawai’i and its role in the Asia-Pacific region.
Members also promote cultural outreach and education by sharing
food and customs from various parts of the Pacific.
In addition, PAAC participants interact with students from around
the state during community-service opportunities, such as WorldQuest,
a competition that tests students’ knowledge of current affairs.
