Frequently Asked Questions
- What forms need to be completed each school year and turned in before being allowed to participate in any sport?
The Athletic Participation Form needs to be submitted annually and is good only for the current school year. Physical exams should be scheduled in the summer months and submitted to the athletic office by August 1, or July 15 if the sport begins before August.
- How does one know when a sport is in season and when it will begin?
Information is available on the athletic website and is given to homeroom teachers to post. Sign-up lists are also routed to homerooms to gauge the interest level of students in various sports. Information can also be obtained by calling the Athletic Office at (808) 734-5058, ext. 251 or emailing wokamura@sacredhearts.org
- Is there transportation for sports that go off-campus?
The school provides transportation to practice and game sites off campus. A transportation schedule is emailed to homeroom teachers to post every two weeks. The schedule lists the date, time and order of departure, van (license #) and driver. Transportation is one-way on days when school is in session. Parents are responsible for making arrangements for transportation following practices and games. On Saturdays, coaches may decide to have the team meet at the practice or game site.
- Do teams practice every day?
Most teams practice on a daily basis; six days a week. Some coaches may opt to give an occasional day off during the week. Students should expect to practice on Holidays and during Christmas and spring breaks. A commitment to the team is expected of all student-athletes during their season.
- Do students earn Physical Education credits for participating in a sport?
A student’s motivation for participating in sports should be in the inherent benefits achieved while playing a sport. Students may receive a 1/4 credit (1 credit maximum) for each ILH sport in which they participate. Coaches are required to submit a PE Credit Assessment Form following the season that addresses factors (participation, effort and motivation) that determine whether PE credit will be awarded. The Athletic Director reviews the form before submitting the names of students receiving credit to the Counseling Center.
