| The
Lower School, grades Junior Kindergarten to 6, is a place where
young minds begin a lifelong quest for knowledge. The foremost goal
for these early childhood years is to instill a love of learning
in each child. Beyond that, facilitating student's social and emotional
growth, stimulating creativity and imagination and developing problem-solving,
learning skills and work habits to be employed throughout life are
the focus of the curriculum.
Teachers in the Lower School provide a wealth
of enrichment activities and employ a variety of methods to stimulate
the minds of the young students in their care. In addition, assessments,
evaluations and conferences keep parents apprised of their child’s
progress.
In order to best meet their education needs, the
classes in grades Junior Kindergarten to four are self-contained
with specialists guiding the art, music and physical education curriculum.
In order to prepare students for life in Junior High, the fifth
and sixth grades are departmentalized with students reporting to
different teachers for their classes.
The Lower School curriculum includes instruction
in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, reading,
religion, physical education, art and music. Starting with the first
grade, computer instruction is interwoven into the learning curriculum.
For those needing care after the school
day ends, the Academy’s After School Care Program runs from
2:30 to 5:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday when school is in session.
