High School students enrolled in the Yearbook Class are responsible for working throughout the year on the Ke Hali’a, the Academy’s yearbook distributed in May. Entirely student-produced, members of the Ke Hali’a crew emulate and develop skills commonly used by newspaper and magazine staffs.

Early in the year, staff members learn the principals of taking a good photograph using a digital camera. They also hone their writing skills drafting copy and captions to accompany the yearbook’s numerous candid photographs and learn to master creating page layouts using Josten’s software and Adobe Pagemaker.

Since the yearbook is quite voluminous, staffers often work through lunch or long after the school day ends to meet deadlines. They must be well organized, reliable and be able to work carefully with minimal supervision. In addition, the staffers often attend workshops held during the summer or on weekends to improve their skills and the quality of the yearbook produced.
