Lower School Library
The Lower School Library offers a vast array of rich resources and multimedia to support the school curriculum. As part of the American Association of School Librarian’s Standards for the 21st Century Learner, the goal of the school librarian is to maintain a library facility that meets the needs of its school community, advocate for literacy, and educate the students on how to use information in a way that will benefit their society and the global community. The school librarian helps teach students how to use technology as well as print resources.
Students visit the library 2-4 times a month and are able to borrow books, magazines, DVDs, audiobooks, and a variety of multimedia to promote literacy. Students also have access to reputable online databases to facilitate their research. They are not only introduced to quality children’s literature and are learning how to connect it to their daily lives, but they are also given opportunities to practice effective and ethical behaviors as researchers.
Digital Media Club, Library Club, book clubs, reading incentive programs, a Birthday Book program, author/storyteller visits, book fair, and library curriculum are all offered throughout the school year to provide students with the best opportunities for furthering their education. There are more than 12,000 materials in the Lower School Library. Families are welcome to create their own library accounts to check out materials. The library is open on school days from 7:00-3:15 and is located on the far back left corner of school campus.
