Curriculum

- Grades 9 to 12

The Academy’s college preparatory program prepares young women for life beyond the High School. The curriculum is patterned to challenge each student, help them develop critical-thinking, analytical and communication skills and become independent thinkers with firm values.

The Academy’s curriculum includes challenging courses in 10 disciplines with 10 classes qualifying for the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program.

All students take four years of English courses with each year’s curriculum building upon the foundation laid in previous courses. These classes focus on developing oral and written communication skills, reading comprehension, critical-thinking and literary analysis, with AP and advanced Honors courses offered.

In addition to four years of English study, many Academy students enroll in four years of math, science and foreign language, a trend in preparation for college. Math studies begin with Pre-Algebra with students pursuing courses through AP Calculus. In science, students can choose courses running the gamut from Biology to Physics to AP Biology. Foreign language offerings include study in either Chinese, Japanese, Spanish or Hawaiian.

Academy students take Social Studies courses each year in High School, following a sequence of courses covering the geographical, social, political and economic issues of the past and present in Hawaii, Asia, the United States and the world, as well as Theology classes, aimed to help students know God and herself and tailor their lives built on service to others and the community.

In addition to the core subjects, students take courses in Visual and Performing Arts, all including hands-on experiences, and Physical Education, and can choose technology electives in Computers and Robotics. The Arts classes include study in the various Art disciplines, Video Production, Yearbook, Dance, Choir and Band.
