Welcome to the Academy’s Campus Ministry site!
Campus Ministry exists to support and promote the Catholic identity and spirituality of the school founded by the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts in 1909.
Campus Ministry programs focus on promoting the growth of persons as individuals and as members of a faith community rooted in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Its activities include prayer and worship programs, retreats, community outreach, and pastorial counseling.
Prayer and worship
The Na Leo Ho’onani Liturgical Corps plays an important role in animating worship services. Students and the campus ministry staff serve as ministers of music, dance/drama, hospitality, and environment. Students and teachers also serve as ministers of the Word and the Eucharist.
Each day, school begins with a flag raising and morning prayer ceremony. The entire school gathers in a public profession of love of God and country. At this time, the school also recognizes special people and/or events.
Each month there are special Masses services for the school year.
Retreats
Faculty and students are able to spend a special day of prayer, sharing, and reflection held off campus at St. Anthony Retreat Center.
Christian Leadership
The LIFE program and the Na Leo Ho'onani Liturgical Corps offer students opportunities to develop skills in serving as leaders in the school community. Members of the school’s LIFE (Living in Faith Experience) lead the 6, 8, 9 and 10 grade retreats. During the summer, a team of 12 seniors and two faculty members participate in this Marianist sponsored retreat program held in northern California where they develop skills as Christian leaders. These young women serve as leaders in the various organizations of the school, staff the retreats, and promote Lancer Christian Communities. Members of the Lit Corps serve to animate the school's worship services.
Service Learning Program
The Academy is committed to a strong service learning program following in the footsteps of Jesus, who came to serve, not to be served.
Through the theology department, Campus Ministry coordinates the service learning program of the high school. Each student grades 7 through 12 is required to do a minimum of 25 hours of service to the community each year. In the lower school, service learning is done through the respective classes.
Some activities which campus ministry sponsors are:
the Fast for a Better Tomorrow
building relations with the families of Loliana Hale, a transitional shelter for homeless families
a Thanksgiving food drive for the outreach of neighboring parishes
Pastoral Counseling
A member of the Campus Ministry team prays with each individual student grades 7 – 12 and encourages her to participate in parish/church sacramental and youth programs.
